    Music/Sound

Ana and I decided to text Valley Palace. They are a small artist that creates music with no lyrics, so we thought this would be perfect for our project. He gave us permission to utilize his music for our project.

A friend of ours told us that she messaged them and got permission and used their music for their project as well so we decided to check them out since we both do not know too many smaller artists to use. They answered our friend fairly quickly which left us hopeful of hearing back from him fairly soon. Ana and I both really enjoyed their music and finally decided to use their song, 'Do over'. We felt that this song sutied our film the best and would serve as a great add-on.

Also, there are other sounds like a phone ring that was done with Ana's phone and a the national lockdown news announcement that was a voice memo we recorded of Helbert Villa, one of our actors. Other than that, is the dialogue that was recorded on set and also the background noises are natural from the recording.

 LOCATION CHANGE!

Unfortunately, Ana and I have had a quick change of plans. Our original plan was to film at our homes for the scenes where Michael and Daniela are home. And then, we were planning on filming the rest of the city scenes in Miami. However,  we had to change our location. Going down to Miami to film became a bit more complicated than we had imagined... It's not much of a struggle for Ana and me to go but getting the rest of our actors down there is because they have more demanding schedules right now with sports, clubs, and school.

So, we brainstormed for a while and thought about what could we do to replicate that New York City feels and look. After much thought and consideration, we realized there is no way to replicate that look in Weston and make it look realistic in any way.

We FINALLY decided we would just film in Weston and describe it as like the suburbs outside New York City. We're hoping with angles and editing t could turn out good and at least a little believeable.

Who is this film for? Who is our audience?

Personally, the topic and storyline for our film are something I would personally LOVE. I have always been a big fan of action films with some terror. Films that consist of pandemics, crime, and global crises are something I am a huge fan of.
However, me still being a teenager, I have a bit of a soft spot for cheesy romantic storylines and corny chick flicks. I feel like our film combines both of these things. Chick-flicks and romantic films can be really boring sometimes... SOMETIMES (in no way am I referring to the classic, iconic romantic films)! But when you add in the action element, they can go from average to SUPER interesting.
Anyway, Ana and I have been recently discussing our target audience. We know that we are super proud of our storyline but we needed to discuss, realistically, which age group and/or gender group would be more drawn to it as well.

In this graph, you can see the age group that mostly views romance films are between the ages of 45+. These statistics actually really surprised me the more research I did only because I thought it would have a much larger younger target audience if anything. However, the age group of 15-24 is the runner-up in this graph. We still want to aim our film towards that age group of 15-24 anyway.

To further our research, Ana and I decided to individually research on gender. We both had the feeling and prediction that women would be the gender that watches more romance films. Turns out, we were correct. This helped us conclude that our target audience is females from the ages 15-24.

 Meet Our Cast!

We finally found the two perfect people to be the stars of our film opening,

As you may already know, we decided to make our film about Micheal, a caucasian, small-town boy, and Daniela, a Colombian lower-class immigrant.  The people we chose could not be more perfect and here's why:

I decided to call my friend Gaby and Marshall and ask them to be our stars.

Gaby is Colombian and looks exactly like what I pictured our character, Daniela, to look like. I met gaby through my close friend, Marshall, who she is now dating. Marshall fits the description for Michael perfectly. He is tall, athletic, and caucasian.

The fact that Gaby and Marshall are dating makes it so much easier for us to use them because they already have that natural chemistry. It will be a whole lot easier for them to act out this relationship and connection.

 We decided on a title!!!!

When we began this project, Ana and had thought of a couple cool options for our name but we never fully settled on one. This is because there were still so many other things about the film opening itself that we wanted to figure out so that our title could be an actual accurate representation of our film. After brainstorming for so long and discussing different options, we finally decided on...

                                                        Love Sick

I think this title truly captures the essence of our film and I am so content with it. I think it captures the romance aspect while the "sick" captures the pandemic, terror aspect of our film. Our film is a bit two-sided and I think this title is short, quick, and still gets the point across for the entire feel.

People when they see this title can infer and interpret what our story is going to be about so Ana and I decided that this was the title that we wanted This title is short and simple, the 3 R's we needed for our perfect title.

Ana and I are extremely excited and eager to not only move forward with our project and see it come to life with every step, but we are also very excited to introduce and officially present our film opening as Love Sick.

I apologize for this post being a bit on the shorter side but I am making sure to update every move on the blog and we have been making a lot of important decisions regarding our project in order to start locking down and deciding on different aspects of our project.

 Our Complete Outline

My partner and I have officially come up with a set list (in chronological order) of how we want our scene to play out. The list goes like this:

1. Establishing shot of all the New York Buildings
2. Medium shot of Daniela walking into the city
3. Crosscut to Michael also walking back home
4. Long shot of Daniela lying in bed, when her friend calls her to pressure her to go to the game, and then she stands up to get ready.
5. Crosscut again to Michaels house
6. Over the shoulder shot of Micheals phone blowing up with messages asking him if he is going to go to the game tonight
7. Medium shot of Michales stressed
8. Long shot of him standing up to get his clothes for the game
9. Medium shot of him getting ready (Pandemic audio playing in the background, which will introduce the pandemic to the public)
10. Tracking shot of Daniela ready for the game walking up to her parents to say bye and her parents warn her about the pandemic. (news also playing in the background)
11. Daniela walking out the door long shot
12. Michael leaving his house talking to his friends
13. Cuts to a long shot of him walking in the street telling his friends he is on his way, but he got lost in a random street he had never seen before.
14. Crosscut to Daniela also walking to the game talking to her best friend telling her annoyingly that she is getting there.
15. Long shot of characters bumping into each other.
16. Low shot of Daniela picking up her phone and Michael also goes down to help her.
17. Two-shot of both characters standing up recording this from aside.
18. Side two-shot of the characters looking at each other. (title appears on top of them)

In my last post, you can check out in-depth descriptions for the first couple of scenes which lay the foundation for the rest (so I guess you can say they're kind of important..).

Our Outline pt. 1

One big issue we have been facing is the sequence in which the scenes in our film opening will play out. We both have done so much research along with a lot of brainstorming and we have picked up so many things we want to include (maybe a little too many!). After finally setting on the official background and history for our main characters, we developed so many side stories and found so many different cool things we could incorporate and discuss within our film opening. However, there is a 2-minute time limit and we cannot afford to get carried away. So, we sat down and decided to plan out how our film opening will play out scene by scene. These are more in-depth descriptions of the first 3 scenes and their purpose because they are some of the more important scenes in our opening:

When the film opening begins, we want our first shot to be a medium of shot of Daniela walking down the city streets. We want it to be from her point of view so we would film her from the back as she walks forward. However, we also wanted to introduce the city they are in. So, we decided on making it like a vertical panoramic shot that goes from the buildings and skylines down to Daniela as she strolls.

The next scene will crosscut Michael walking back home. This shot can be a medium shot but that is still up for debate, honestly. This scene will introduce Michael and his "lifestyle". We want the audience to know he is popular and almost "top of the food chain" at school. We want it to be noted that he has a lot of friends and has a lot of girls interested in him. Almost like the typical "average jock".

Times and Places  Times and Places  Times and Places  Times and Places  Times and Places

WHERE:

A BIG question we had when approaching our idea for this film opening was "where do we plan on filming this?". Living in a suburban area can make it just a little difficult to film city life. Ana and I really plan on capturing the true feeling of what it is like to be two teens in love in the city. in order to do so, we planned on taking a little road trip downtown. We figured it is physically impossible to even attempt to pull those scenes off in our area and we thankfully have a way of going down to Miami and getting those scenes done down there.

For the scenes where Daniela and Michael walk around and meet, we will film those in Miami. This is because we want to have that city view and that typical city traffic sound in the back. With a green screen, we still would not be able to make it so authentic and true.

The remaining scenes will be filmed in my house and Ana's house. Ana's house will be "Daniela's" house. My house will be "Michael's House". Between these two locations, we can capture scenes of Daniela's family life which can reveal a little more about her and her background. The same goes for Michael. His social standing and his family life will be revealed and shown through these scenes. Hopefully we can make it so that the audience can notice the contrast between both of their lives. We want them to notice just how different Daniela and Michael's lives are and how that can also cause obstacles to overcome in their relationship.

WHEN:

As for our schedule, Ana and I planned so that we can get all the city scenes in one trip. We plan to do this on Saturday, March 20th.

For Daniela's home scenes, we plan on going to Ana's on that previous Tuesday, March 16th.

For Michael's home scenes, we plan on coming here to film all of those scenes on Thursday, March 18th.
